So Sarah has actually second shot a few weddings for me, so I absolutely love this girl and was so pumped when she wanted me to take photos of her and her boyfriend, Dakota, at God’s Thumb. She won my giveaway last winter and one prize was a free session, so I was so excited to finally take her and Dakota’s photos! Plus, I had never been to God’s Thumb before but it was on my list, so win-win.
These two lovebirds hopped in my CR-V and we spent the 2 hour drive talking photography, wedding blogs, our favorite coffee shops, Dakota’s epic catering company, all the good stuff. Since we were headed right by one of their favorite coffee shops in Salem, we made a pit-stop at Archive Coffee & Bar. We also stopped at a natural grocery store to get some sweet potato chips, their favorite snack, haha.
The hike was actually pretty tough, but SO worth it. When we came out from the forest (only after taking a few photos in the pretty light, of course) we were blown away by the sights. No one was around, the sky was a soft overcast, and you could just hear the waves over the wind. It was magical.
We made our way to the very top of God’s Thumb and ended up being so in awe of the view below, not really caring about the giant knoll, which everyone always uses as the backdrop. We sat in awe, watching the crystal blue and white waves crash onto the rocky beaches below, feeling so high off the ground. You know how you always look up Instagram famous places and it either exceeds your expectations or doesn’t? This place exceeded by far, but in a different way than we thought. It was just so crazy thinking we were going to go see the knoll and shoot on the knoll, but we all ended up mesmerized by the beautiful views of what lay below the hill.
After we played tag, did some jumping onto shoulders and made out a bunch, we slowly made our way back to our car, smiles on our faces. I was already way too excited to edit a few right when I got home. Working with other creatives just takes your work to the next level, and it was so fun getting to know these two on a more personal level.
Sarah and Dakota, thanks again for letting me capture your sweet sweet love! Let’s go on another adventure and get some more coffee at Archive–and of course, some more sweet potato chips!
